SRK doesn't want ALWAYS KABHI KABHI to be just body beautiful

Karan Johar may have started his film making career with Shahrukh Khan in KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI, where a major part of the film's setting was a college campus. However when it came to making his own campus film ALWAYS KABHI KABHI, Shahrukh isn't following his friend's success formula.

"It has been a conscious call by the makers to take a slightly realistic route rather than making it all overtly filmy," informs a senior crew member, "Shahrukh as well as Roshan Abbas (the film's director) understand that just a 'body beautiful' campus doesn't work anymore. You need to have the script doing all the talking."

To the credit of Shahrukh and Karan though, KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI had indeed merged body and soul that had resulted in the film turning out to be a huge success. However in the decade gone by, dozens of others films tried to copy the formula, only to come crashing down. Shahrukh realised that soon and along with writer-director Roshan Abbas, it was decided that other than just the exteriors, there had to be an added emphasis on getting the content right.

"Well, it isn't necessary that every campus setting should have that cool look to it," smiles Roshan when asked about the world that one can expect from ALWAYS KABHI KABHI, "Tell me whether in our times schools looked anywhere close to the kind that we see in films? So yes, if you are looking for a lot of colours then well, you would see all the ribbons and balloons but only when there is a party in the campus, not otherwise."
