Shah Rukh Khan Reveals His Dates Diary

hah Rukh Khan talks about the films he is doing next, the ones he has refused, and why, and  what he plans to do in 2012.  A Koimoi.com Exclusive.

Now that his Ra.One is released and Don 2 is due for release, Shah Rukh Khan is all set to start his new slate of films. The first movie he will face the cameras for will be Yash Chopra's untitled film, co-starring Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. Although the original plan was to have the cameras rolling for it in the first week of December, Shah Rukh requested the maverick filmmaker to postpone its launching by a month.

The superstar, who will go with family to Dubai on 29th December, will return to India on 4th January in the new year. Says Shah Rukh Khan, "I will start shooting for Yashji's film on 5th (January)." Before that, Katrina and Anushka will do a workshop with the actor.

SRK: There is a project with Anurag Basu and Anurag Kashyap…

There is a project each with Anurag Basu and Anurag Kashyap on the anvil. Anurag Basu's script for the Shah Rukh starrer was ready quite some time back but the superstar asked him to complete Barfee first as he knew, he would be busy with Ra.One. As for the Kashyap film, Shah Rukh smiles, "He says, he has got a full-on commercial film up his sleeve this time, which he wants to make with me." If Anurag Kashyap is keen to open his account with Shah Rukh Khan, so is younger brother, Abhinav Kashyap. "Abhinav had met me soon after Dabangg was released but I don't know what is happening thereafter," explains Shah Rukh, adding, "He wanted to make a film with me but he also has the subject of a rom-com ready for a younger actor."

SRK: I have decided not to do Vishal Bhardwaj's 2 States

What about Vishal Bhardwaj's film based on Chetan Bhagat's novel, 2 States? "I have decided not to do that film," admits the actor. "Too many people were saying too many things about the film and so, I lost interest in the project. I told Vishal, I wouldn't want to work in this film. But I'll definitely do a film with him. He is very talented, hardworking and very sincere." Shah Rukh then reveals what he jocularly told Vishal: "I told him, we'll not make a dark film, we will shoot with a lot of lights. In fact, when Adi (Aditya Chopra), Vishal and I met together, Adi told him to keep the ending of his proposed film starring me, completely commercial. Why, I jokingly asked him to shoot his climax first, and then the rest of the film." The actor is all praise for Vishal's musical genius too. Rohit Shetty's Chennai Express finds a definite place in Shah Rukh's dates diary. "Rohit has completed writing the first half of Chennai Express, and it is damn good," reveals Khan.

SRK: I'm not playing any role in Karan Johar's Student Of The Year

Denying rumours that he is acting in Karan Johar's Student Of The Year, Shah Rukh reveals, "No I'm not playing any role in the film. My name will adorn its credit titles as one of the producers because Karan feels, I must be a joint producer in every film he makes." So what is Shah Rukh Khan's plan of action before he leaves for Dubai in December-end? In the next 33 days, he would, of course, be promoting Don 2. He also intends devoting time to all the aforementioned filmmakers he is in conversation with for their films. "I need to understand which films I would be starting and when," says Shah Rukh. "I intend sitting in my new office for two-three days and meeting Anurag Basu, Anurag Kashyap, Vishal Bhardwaj, etc."

There is one more film Shah Rukh Khan is kicked about and that is his friend, Sanjay Ray Chaudhuri's (cofounder of the Network 18 group with Raghav Bahl) debut film. "Sanjay and I are friends since college days," explains the actor. All of this means that Shah Rukh will be busier than the proverbial bee once the New Year sets in.

Bollywood's king amazed by ongoing adulation

Shah Rukh KhanShah Rukh Khan's career spans some 70 films and 30 years of movie-making

His name may not mean much in the West but Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan is quite possibly the most popular movie star in the world.

With Bollywood cinema reaching an estimated three billion people his following far exceeds that of Hollywood's stars.

But after nearly 30 years in the business - and more than 70 films under his belt - 46-year-old Khan remains unexpectedly shy and still can't quite fathom why legions of fans commonly refer to him as the King of Bollywood.

"I get amazed they call me that - and I think maybe deep down inside my heart I don't deserve all of this," he says. "I feel very grateful and very odd. I don't even know why people like me so much."

India Direct logo

He explains how his confident exterior masks a withdrawn personality. "I'm a very shy person. As I'm getting older, I'm becoming more and more reclusive," he says.

Given his proclaimed shyness he says acting has been a source of solace. "I actually act just to cover up my awkwardness, so I become some other person and do all the strange things. It's nearly schizophrenic, and I can just go and do something and not feel responsible, not feel shy, not feel odd, not feel awkward."

Khan is known for his wide range of films. Some of his pictures have become modern popular classics where he often plays the romantic lead.

"You know, it's so strange that I've done so many love stories, and all my co-actresses and all my friends and ladies, they say, 'Oh, you're so romantic.' I've never in my life been able to go and say hello to a girl at a party. The first person I said it to was my wife and I married her quickly."

Priyanka ChopraKhan's co-star Priyanka Chopra says he is popular partly because he is so humble

He says he's thrilled by acting but doesn't want to review his work once shooting is complete. "I can't even see my films. I think out of the 70 films I've not seen more than three, I can't watch my films. I get embarrassed."

With other Indian actors gaining popularity in recent times Khan's stature has taken a little bit of a beating - but for his followers he has an almost magical ability to keep them enthralled.

Top Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra believes his popularity is partly explained by his humility. "There's a relatability to him," she says. "He's humble, and at the same time, he has the qualities that every mother would want in her child or every wife would want in her husband and every kid would want in her dad. He has all of those in him, so that makes him more than just this movie star who sings you incredible songs. It makes him a brand or a commodity which everyone relates to, and hence why he has become more than just a movie star.

Superhero role

The actor enthusiastically engages with his fans wherever he goes - but he's also very involved with colleagues in the movie business working hard to push the Indian film industry forwards.

His latest starring role was in Ra.One, released in October, a film which he also produced. It's been described as India's most expensive film. It's a state-of-the-art superhero picture which, its promoters claim, boasts more special effects than director James Cameron's Avatar.

Shah Rukh Khan Khan wants to make films that appeal to both Indian and Western audiences

Khan believes the Indian film industry has to bring up its production standards if it is to survive - especially at a time when Hollywood is beginning to make inroads into the Indian market.

"Youngsters are exposed to international cinema. They are wanting quality. They are wanting styling. They are wanting designing. They are wanting storytelling, which is international now, and if we don't cater to that, I think five, seven years later, young kids, the ones who are 15, 16 will stop watching Indian films."

Many critics were impressed by the special effects in Ra.One but there were some gripes about the weakness of the storytelling.

Khan, while not pointing to any particular deficits in Ra.One, concedes Indian screenwriting needs to change - especially with overseas markets in mind.

"Start Quote

We make musicals. That format needs to change"

"I think our screenplay technique needs to improve a lot more. We make musicals. That format needs to change. We can still have the music, but maybe not so obtrusively.

"If you want to sell a film overseas internationally, it will have to be initially written by screenplay writers from the West, because they understand." But he believes Indian content should definitely be retained.

One of Khan's big ambitions is to make a film that will cross over and satisfy audiences in both the West and India. "I'll keep tirelessly working towards that... I don't want to sell the poverty and the snake charmers of India. I want to sell the educated middle class of India. I want to tell them there's a lot of intelligence here, intellect here, rich here, happiness here, colourful culture here, and with due respect, we are not just some country, a Third World country. I don't want to sell the sadness of this country. I want to sell the happiness of the country."

Although many of the films that in which Khan has appeared are escapist he remains committed to real life issues.

'Secular' industry

Last year the actor, who was born into a Muslim family, starred in the film My Name Is Khan which dealt with Muslim profiling in post-9/11 America. "I thought I should be one of the few people, at least in India, to tell people that being Muslim is not necessarily being a terrorist or bad guy. The world should not be divided like this."

But the actor maintains that despite living in a country where Muslims are in the minority he's never experienced any discrimination in the film business. "I think the Indian film industry is the most secular place to find a job in. I don't even know if anybody knows anybody else's religion while we're working together. I've never been disadvantaged as far as being a Muslim is concerned in this industry."

Despite his sometimes humble and insecure assessment of himself Khan doesn't come across as an unfulfilled man.

"I feel very happy that I'm allowed by God to come and be someone else. That's all I need to do, and I just keep doing it every morning I get up. My family keeps asking, 'How do you do this?' I said, 'I just love it. I'm just very happy doing acting

Rob Schneider impressed with SRK's wit

Hollywood actor and stand-up comic Rob Schneider is impressed by Indians and their wit. "If you make an Indian friend, he's with you for life. But if you make an American friend, he's with you till you're in Mc Donald's," says the 48-year-old, who is in Delhi as part of his first Indian tour.

He says that he discovered the wonders of Indian traffic soon as he landed, when he got stuck in a 4am traffic jam. "It takes good brakes, a good horn, good luck and a lot of wit to be on Indian roads", says the American, who'll perform at the Black Dog comedy evening.

On being asked who'd he crack jokes on, he says, "Since I am in India, all my jokes would have to be approved by Sonia Gandhi."

Schneider says he'd love to visit ashrams and forts in Jaipur.

He adds, "I am on a short visit this time but next time, I will make time to go party in Goa."

Shah Rukh to Help Build Brand Bengal

clip

Shah Rukh Khan has agreed to be the brand ambassador for West Bengal on a request from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The chief minister made the request during an interaction with Khan on the sidelines of the inaugural function of the 17th Kolkata Film Festival.

"Yes, he has agreed," Banerjee told PTI Nov 10 when asked about her proposal to Khan and his response.

During the interaction, "King Khan" is reported to have told Banerjee that he would be in the state whenever the chief minister called him.

Recalling the shooting of some sequences of his film "Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman" in Darjeeling, Khan said he had fond memories of his stay there.

Earlier, speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the film festival, Khan sung paeans to Kolkata, describing it as the country's cultural and literary hub which produced the best of Indian cinema.

"I believe that the history of our arts, literature, poetry and films cannot be written, or ever begin without the state of West Bengal," Khan, who owns the Kolkata Knight Riders team of the IPL, said.

Shah Rukh offers to strip at IFFI opener

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan Wednesday turned an otherwise drab official function into a rib-tickling affair by offering to strip and reveal his bermudas on stage at the inauguration of the 42nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

Shah Rukh, the chief guest at the inauguration of the 11-day festival, was at his hilarious best and had union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni and Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat in splits by threatening to strip down to his beach wear, which he claimed he was wearing beneath his formal slacks.

"I wanted to wear my bermudas, but then chose to wear my suit. But I am still wearing bermudas beneath. Do you want me to take my pants off," he asked, leaving the 1,000 strong audience laughing their guts out.

"The younger girls (referring to compere Tisca Chopra and actress Rituparna Sengupta) and Ambika ji are saying 'take it off, take it off'!" Khan chided in banter, after being at the receiving end of Soni's playful jibe at him in her introductory speech.

Soni had earlier said that it was "extremely easy" to get Shah Rukh Khan to attend the festival and that she did not have to approach any "powerful" friends and people to coax the Bollywood badshah to attend the mega I&B event.

"All I told him was that we need to him to come to the festival to raise the profile of the IFFI (International Film Festival of India). And he said yes," Soni said, even as Shah Rukh had the organisers waiting for nearly 40 minutes before he arrived at the venue.

The festival will screen more than 100 movies from 65 countries and will have special packages like 'Master Classes' by renowned film personalities like Milcho Manchevski, Hugh Welchman, Laurence Kardish and a first of its kind package of 3D and animation movies.

I'm sick of carrying cigarettes: Shah Rukh

Shah Rukh Khan is trying really hard to quit smoking. Earlier, he would be seen lighting the cancer stick quite frequently - almost like a chain-smoker.

Not any more. "I have come down to six to seven cigarettes a day," SRK says. It is daughter Suhana who is helping her dad kick the habit.

"Today, when I was leaving home she wasn't happy to see me carry a pack. But one needs time to even give up a habit you have developed for so many years," says the superstar, who would prefer to be just a social smoker. "Actually, I am sick of carrying cigarettes," he says. Uh... give it to your spot boy to carry then, SRK.

Shah Rukh Khan' s in no mood to create controversies

Looks like Shah Rukh Khan is neither in a mood to forgive or forget nor does he want to create controversies.

Recently, Anil Kapoor with who Shah Rukh has not had the best of relations, claimed that the credit of creating the stardom of actor Shah Rukh Khan indirectly goes to him. Anil revealed on Preity Zinta's chat show that Shah Rukh was offered Baazigarafter he had rejected the film.

"If it had not been for me, today Shah Rukh wouldn't have been where he is," said Anil as Preity looked at him in amazement. Anil indicated that he couldn't spare the time for Baazigaras he had other projects to complete.

As we all know, Baazigar (1993) played a big role in establishing Shah Rukh as the next big star in Bollywood in the anti-hero mould. Shah Rukh followed up his Baazigaract with a few anti-hero roles like in Darrand Anjaamwhich garnered a lot of critical acclaim, before Aditya Chopra's Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayengechanged that and established him as the quintessential lover boy. Baazigarwas the first film to mark his pairing with actor Kajol.

And when Shah Rukh was asked to react on Anil's statement, he simply avoided taking any names and replied: "It is not just one person, but there are billions of people in the country who are responsible in making me successful. Then I have worked with the nicest of people in my career my directors, technicians, actorsthey are all responsible for me being where I am," said SRK.

Further, Shah Rukh again avoided taking the name of his arch rival Aamir Khan when asked to comment about Aamir's "nice" gesture. Aamir had lauded Shah Rukh's efforts in making Ra.One and had further called the Ra.One jokes to be in poor taste. "Yes, it was nice" Shah Rukh, who is usually ready with witty words, merely mumbled.

How can the badshahforget the verbal volleys that he and Aamir had had in the past? Remember Aamir wrote on his blog few years back about 'a certain Shah Rukh licking his feet and he (Aamir) feeding biscuits...' Probably, Shah Rukh must be doubting Aamir's intentions in being so nice to him this time.

'Don 2' has scenes which no one will expect: SRK

Mumbai: The crew of 'Don 2' get talking to CNN-IBN about the making of the movie. They also share funny experiences on set and how the lead character Don's catchy dialogues were created.

'Don 2' is set to release on December 23, and the cast and crew of the movie are upbeat about this sequel.

Here's the full transcript of the interview:

CNN-IBN: Whoever said "Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi namumkin hai" got it all wrong. Here I am standing outside Shah Rukh Khan's vanity van and I am going make impossible possible for you. So Come lets go and chat with cast and crew of 'Don 2'. Come along

Farhan you have kept the audience for waiting for five long years. What took you so long to make 'Don 2'?

Farhan Akhtar : I wanted to test their patience, that's very important. But no, you need to find right story and you need to get excited by the right idea. When that came along, we decided to go ahead and do it. It could have possibly happened a year earlier but I think Shah Rukh had a shoulder injury. So it got delayed, but ya just wait for the right idea and right story.

CNN-IBN: We love your attitude and style in the film, what with the long hair braided. Of course the hair, the stuble, the smoke and the trademark glasses, the women are also loving it. So personally did you have fun spotting the long haired look?

Shah Rukh Khan : Ya. The nicest part of my long healthy hair is that you can lie on a girl's lap, and tickle her nose with your hair. That's the quirk I have, that's really nice, its something that I always wanted to do.

Priyanka Chopra : How romantic? Tickle her nose with my hair. So Romantic.

Shah Rukh Khan : While lying in a girl's lap that's something I have done repeatedly in 'Don 2'. Repeatedly in this film Don keeps doing this. Whenever he is disturbed, angry emotionally, he feels highly strong about this.

And otherwise I really enjoyed it because you know I would just like to mention from 'Don 1' the last twenty minutes of the film, the last four or five minutes of the film, is what actually Farhan has written originally, you know trying to keep film straight. And I think that is really the most exciting part of the remake we did. That is the most original and most exciting and most unexpected

Priyanka Chopra : People didn't expected

Shah Rukh Khan : Farhan was very keen that in the first part of the film, when I am sure I have a different look because I must have escaped and kind of laid low and whatever. And than we tried some looks and send some pictures to him in Malaysia. We drove down from the airport about an hour and half and I was like little worried, you know how would turn out. And it was very scratchy, Priyanka scratched my hair through out the drive. You know I had to take a pen and keep on scratching and scratching that is the only problem with that long hair, otherwise it's nice. And the girls kept calling me saying "can you please tickle our nose with your pony tail."

Priyanka Chopra : Tickle her

CNN-IBN: I had long hair

Priyanka Chopra : No tickle her

Shah Rukh Khan : No not from your pony but my pony tail. Is it good?

CNN-IBN: I think I am scared, Ok sorry even.

Shah Rukh Khan : Now, you cannot escape from my charm, I will come in your dreams.

CNN-IBN: Ok a lot is been spoken about action in 'Don 2'. You have gone to exotic locations and does even there was a sequence in Berlin, where you jumped off a very tall building. Is that true?

Shah Rukh Khan : Aaa Yes

Priyanka Chopra : It is true

Shah Rukh Khan : Ya, it is true that I did jumped off. But I said I won't until Farhan showed me and he did. So I was little kind of scares, it was my first day, it was cold. So there was this shot they showed me how my whole body has to be horizontal like parallel to the ground. And I was showing it to Farhan which was only about half-a-foot and I had to this for four-hundred-feet jump. So I was just showing at the height of half-a-foot and I had slipped and fallen on my face, 'fichh' like that and everybody including the fight master who was told that Shah Rukh is really good with this, he's like 'aaah'. He was holding me from my back and I slipped like this 'aahh'. It was most embarrassing fall.

Farhan Akhtar : It was funny, really funny because his harness was in the middle of his back right and that harness was there so that if he should fall, he should not touch the ground. So he was swinging above two inches of the ground.

CNN-IBN: Farhan was it difficult for you to actually don the director's hat after five years, after you know you been used to being on-screen now?

Farhan Akhtar : No, no really I really didn't feel that the break has been this long to start with. And again it was we were in familiar territory, in terms of working with the same lot of people that I just worked on as a director before, the same characters, of course evolved, but the same characters. I mean it felt very comfortable to get back into the same film and to the same level. And do it again and I didn't miss it, I didn't miss it, it didn't feel that long to be missed.

CNN-IBN: You have a lot of action sequences in the film as well?

Priyanka Chopra : Well I play a cop in the movie and I won't say I have lot of action.

Farhan Akhtar : But you have more action in this film you have did in first film.

Shah Rukh Khan : Ya ya

Priyanka Chopra : Ya I do have

Shah Rukh Khan : That was the only one fight in the train.

Priyanka Chopra : Ya

Farhan Akhtar : Ya that was only

Shah Rukh Khan : This one you have a lot of fights.

Priyanka Chopra : Ya in this one I have action that's beat up really, its very exciting . I was very excited.

Farhan Akhtar : Do you remember that fight when Shah Rukh was telling you that it is very important that you scream? So when you hit like 'haah' you know so that you get that power.

Priyanka Chopra : You know I do that but with girl's its shrill.

CNN-IBN: It sounds more like a cat.

Shah Rukh Khan : Wild cat, Junglee Billi.

Priyanka Chopra : Ya I was trying very hard to make it sound really tough.

Shah Rukh Khan : Now it was really difficult for the guy she is beating up because he would start laughing.

Priyanka Chopra : I was really get scared to hit because you know you suppose to act like hitting and I don't know how to do that because I am not used to do that. So, both of them tried to teach me how to do that.

Shah Rukh Khan : Show that it to Piya, show that, come on hit on me.

CNN-IBN: Oh I got nervous, not on me.

Priyanka Chopra : Hit SRK.

Shah Rukh Khan : Come on hit once again .

Priyanka Chopra : Sorry, I will do it.

Shah Rukh Khan : Priyanka slapped Shah Rukh (Priyanka ne Shah Rukh ko thappad maara, mara mara )

Priyanka Chopra : Breaking news (Sansani Khabar)

CNN-IBN: Alright. So Priyanka do you like the tag being called Junglee Billi?

Priyanka Chopra : Ya, I mean I'm feline, I am sexy and I am extremely dangerous.

Shah Rukh Khan : and people call me Junglee Kutta, and I like it.

Priyanka Chopra : And do you want to tell the reasons why? I don't think so.

CNN-IBN: Yes, yes please

Priyanka Chopra : No, no I can't dare, you can ask him. Why do people call you Junglee Kutta?

CNN-IBN: The 'Don' in 2006 had lot of dialogues that were taken from Amitabh Bachchan's starrer but this has completely new langue. Did you love the lines that were given to you, sir?

Shah Rukh Khan : Sir bahut sharif sa lagta hai call me DON.

CNN-IBN: I was just waiting for that

Shah Rukh Khan : Me also, but I think that whole credit goes to Farhan. I remember when he was writing the script he called me in the middle and said my favourite dialogue in the film - aap meri maa ko nahi jante- and that is really the coolest bad guy line in the world. I think it's as cool as you talking to me.

CNN-IBN: Unfortunately this film is also gone to the legal tangle. Nariman films said they didn't give you the right to make the sequel. What would have to say about that?

Ritesh Sidhwani : I think it become a trend now a days, that every time a movie is out they go to court.

Shah Rukh Khan : But in all coolness I would like to say Don ke dushman ki sabse badi galti yeh hai ki wo Don ka dushman hai. Please don't sue us for this.

CNN-IBN: Not bad not bad, thank you so much it was lovely chatting with you all and all the best for 'Don 2' on 23rd of December.

Shah Rukh Khan : Would you like another tickle?

CNN-IBN: Thank you

Shah Rukh Khan turns magician now

The title track "Zara Dil Ko Tham Lo" of "Don 2" required Shah Rukh Khan to perform some magic tricks. These tricks were to be done with a Zippo (tricks performed with a lighter, the flame of which keeps appearing and disappearing) and cards.

For this, one of India's first street magicians, Ugesh Sarkar was called in from Bangalore to teach the Badshah some tricks at his home before he was to shoot. Ugesh was also supposed to be doing some of the tricks in the song. However, Shah Rukh was very quick in mastering the art and to everyone's surprise, he eventually did all the tricks independently without much help from Ugesh.

While the shoot was on, Ugesh was on the sets throughout watching the star perform with the Zippo effortlessly. Says Ritesh Sidhwani, producer of "Don 2", "I was surprised to see Shah Rukh do some of the tricks himself. I had thought that we would need Ugesh to do some of those shots. So now you can also call him Shah Rukh the magician!"

Look out for what Don has up his sleeves this time around. The movie will be releasing on December 23.

RA.One - The new face of Indian cinema

Till now Bollywood movies overseas are more known for their song & dance sequences & heroes running around trees or atop mountains to woo their girls, but RA.One seems on track to add a new dimension to the world renowned Indian cinema. A sci-fi super hero flick, Random Access One or RA.One has finally arrived to our shores on October 26th, 2011. Starring the Badshaah of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan, this is the most expensive Bollywood flick till date with an estimated cost of 150 crores (US Dollars ($30.42 million).

It was a memorable experience watching King Khan's much awaited film of the year RA.ONE here in New Zealand. Awesome special effects were the highlight of the film for me. SRK & director Anubhav have tried to elevate the level of Indian cinema vis-a-vis Hollywood. It may be recalled that previous attempts by Indian filmmakers at superhero movies, like Hrithik's Krish & Abhi's-Drona proved futile & were much below the international standards. RA.One is a superhero movie with a different spin. Herein the gaming characters come out of their virtual world into the realms of the real world. Shahrukh plays a dual role, as a game developer & G1, a super hero look alike.

The initial hour of the movie was average, but kudos to SRK for trying something different. His South Indian avatar Shekhar with his permed hair & "ayyayo" was not too bad. Actually he is the head of a gaming department in "Barron Industries" where he is asked to produce a new game for the Indian market. Kareena plays Shekhar's wife, Sonia. RA.One (Arjun Rampal) impresses as a villain, his bald & deadly look & his late entry into the film after intermission were the highlights. G.One (SRK) is the good guy in the game. While SRK belives that villains are bad elements, so the good should win, but his son Prateik thinks that the villains are cool dudes. To win over his son , for whom he is always a source of embarrassment, Shekhar designs the villain in such a way that he is near invincible.

Game is set to three levels. And the death will occur only at LEVEL 3. Both G-One & RA-one have H.A.R.T's , that gives them the power to play. Without the HART they cannot die in the game as well. It's fascinating to watch how the villain Ra.One steps out from the gaming world into the real world & destroys it's creator Shekhar. Then he sets out to find Lucifer(Prateek) who had challenged him in the game. In his search for Lucifer, he kills Akashi who was Shekhar's colleague in designing the game. Then Ra.One assumes the form of Akashi to destroy Lucifer. Prateek who is a gaming whiz kid tries to convince his mom, Kareena that his dad did not die in an accident, but was killed by Ra.One. He brings G.one( SRK) from the game into their life, to fight the menace of RA.one . Armaan Verma as Prateek (Shekhar's son) a.k.a Lucifer impresses in his debut performance as a child artiste. Kareena looks gorgeous as always.

The music by Vishal-Shekhar was average apart from Chhamak Chhallo & "Criminal". I particularly enjoyed "Chhamak Challo" by AKON, sung beautifully & picturized in a nice manner. Akon's awesome vocals coupled with flawless Hindi is surely going to be a big hit with the audience. Shahrukh disappointed with his South Indian pronounciation. All in all Ra.One impresses as a superhero movie, but the initial part of the movie lacked the punch of a SRK flick.

Screenplay & dialogues could have been made better. Kids would love SRK's leaps over the buildings, jumping over the cars & his attempt to stop an out of control train with his hands, SRK has tried to blend all the elements, Bollywood masala, Hollywood style action sequences, international musicians like Akon, to cater to not only Indian masses but also to the non resident Indians based overseas & the foreigners . The presence of the legendary Rajnikant, gorgeous Priyanka & dashing Sunju Baba in guest roles adds to the appeal of the film. It comes as no surprise that RA.one has already recoverd it's cost just in one week of it's screening globally, having collected more than 170 crores(US $34.52 mil) in the first week. One hopes that Shahrukh's attempt to raise the level of Indian cinema to match Hollywood on a technological front does succeed. The day is not far when our Indian movies are at par with Hollywood movies or even better.

SRK joins the league of extraordinary gentlemen

With his latest release RA.One, Shah Rukh Khan has gained entry into the exclusive billion-rupee Club of Bollywood.

The film has grossed over Rs 100 crore in India, giving SRK entry into an elite club already consisting of stars like Aamir Khan (Ghajini, 3 Idiots), Salman Khan (Dabangg, Ready, Bodyguard) and Ajay Devgn (Singham).

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh says, "RA.One has grossed almost Rs 112 crore in its Hindi version in the first two weeks. Today, he too is part of the Billion Club; that has now become the parameter with which a film's box office business is judged."

Trade pundit Komal Nahta, adds that he never doubted that the film would cross the 100-crore mark. "I was very confident it would cross that mark. In fact, I was expecting it to happen in the first week itself considering the number of shows and screens, but it happened the week after. The film makes you realise the kind of business big budget films can do if you have a five-day weekend."

Nahta continues, "It's a recent phenomenon in the last three years that big films like 3 Idiots, Dabangg, Ghajini, and Singham have done such huge business. Though My Name Is Khan was a huge hit and the highest grosser abroad, it did not enter the Billion Rupees Club in India. There was no doubt that SRK would enter this club with his next film. By all accounts, RA.One is expected to do business of approximately Rs 125 crore in net collections in its Hindi version alone."

So ultimately, the question is whether SRK will make a profit on the film or not. Avers Nahta, "Yes, he will. It's a win-win situation for SRK and all involved in the film."

Cost VS collections

Ghajini Cost: Rs 50 crores Collections: Rs 118 crore

3 Idiots Cost: Rs 55 crore Collections: Rs 215 crore

Dabangg Cost: Rs 45 crore Collections: Rs 143 crore

Ready Cost: Rs 55 crore Collections: Rs 122 crore

Singham Cost: Rs 45 crore Collections: Rs 118 crore

Bodyguard Cost: Rs 62 crore Collections: Rs 150 crore

Ra.One Cost: Rs 135 crore Collections: Rs 112 crore (at the time of going to press)

Didi does a Modi, ropes in King Khan

Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has convinced Shah Rukh Khan to be the brand ambassador of her state

Taking a cue from Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who got actor Amitabh Bachchan to be the brand ambassador of Gujarat, Mamata Banerjee approached actor Shah Rukh Khan to be the face of West Bengal.

Shah Rukh, who also owns the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders, is a frequent visitor to the state. Recently, while at the opening ceremony of 17th Kolkata International Film Festival, he was the chief guest at the opening ceremony. It is believed that after the ceremony Mamata approached the superstar wooing him to become the brand ambassador of Bengal.

B-town's Baadshah in Bengal: Shah Rukh Khan says he is eager to
support Mamata Banerjee, and is learning Bengali

Speaking to media persons at the end of the function Shah Rukh said, "I have a cricket team in Kolkata and I frequent this city so often. I am also learning Bengali language. I am pleased to represent Bengal as its brand ambassador."

"I feel honoured with the proposal. I was contemplating the decision, but I am keen to support her [Mamata Banerjee] in any way possible." While leaving for Mumbai, Shah Rukh is understood to have told the chief minister that he will tell producers to explore Bengal as a shooting destination for Bollywood films.

A couple of weeks ago, when the Bollywood Badshah came to the city to promote his latest movie Ra-One, he mentioned that he was looking at properties in Kolkata to buy a house.

Fan converts home to SRK shrine!

From someone else's perspective it might seem eccentric, but fans have a reason for every crazy thing they do.

For Vishal Singh of Lucknow it's the sheer joy and contentment of offering reverence to his favorite Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, in a quite unique way.

Believe it or not, but the 38-year-old Indian businessman has plastered every square inch of his house with SRK's pictures and spent his honeymoon waiting outside the actor's house in Mumbai, hoping to catch a glimpse of his idol.

"I will do anything that will make Shah Rukh Khan happy," said Singh, who is into selling homeopathic medicines in Lucknow.

SRK's fans over all over the world would find it hard to beat, but Singh's house is a shrine to Khan. There are cut-outs of Khan on the ceiling, the television and even on cushions. Singh has even changed his name to Vishahrukh Khan.

"No one can be like Shah Rukh, but I wanted my name to have his name. My children are named Simran and Aryan, which is his son's name," he said. Simran is the female lead (played by Kajol) in one of Khan's biggest films 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge'.

Khan has met this fan of his several times that included Singh's honeymoon, when the diehard follower drove more than 1,300 kilometres (810 miles) with his wife to Mumbai.

Now, it would be interesting to see if King Khan would return the favour and as promised would visit Singh's home.

"I've been wishing to open up a store of homeopathic medicines, but I won't open it until Shahrukh comes and cuts the ribbon," said Singh.
