Box with a view for SRK at Eden

- KKR reserves best two among 32
Two boxes reserved for Shah Rukh Khan and his friends will give almost an umpire's-eye view of the 22 yards

No more standing on a makeshift deck, the boss will be in the box seat at the Eden Gardens wearing his dimpled smile when his new-look team takes the field for its first home match of IPL 4 on Monday.

The best two among the 32 corporate boxes that ostensibly cost Eden Gardens the India-England World Cup match have been reserved for Team Shah Rukh Khan to watch all seven home matches of the Kolkata Knight Riders, which begins its campaign in Chennai on Friday.

"SRK is supposed to attend all seven home matches. He will be seated in the extreme left box of Block B, which is the straightest possible view of the 22 yards from the boxes," Jeet Banerjee, an associate in the KKR franchise, said.

Block B, which will be to KKR pace spearhead Brett Lee's right when he steams in from the Club House end, is one of the four Eden galleries that were pulled down and rebuilt for the World Cup.

Metro had reported in the run-up to the Cup about how work on the corporate boxes that were to be used by cricket officials and sponsors was behind schedule.

Later, after stripping Eden of the India-England match, the ICC cited the incomplete corporate boxes as one of the primary reasons for its decision.

Officials said the fourth season of IPL would see what the corporate boxes were meant to be. "Shah Rukh and his guests will sit in boxes B1 and B2. He will be the first to use those," the joint secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal, Biswarup Dey, said.

The wives and girlfriends of members of the Ireland, South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Holland teams had used a couple of corporate boxes during the three Cup matches hosted by the Eden Gardens. But these were at the other end of the floor.
