Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has confirmed that the luxury development in Ras Al Khaimah with which he is associated has been put on hold in the wake of the property downturn.
Shah Rukh Khan Boulevard, a $2.2bn project on Dana Island off Ras Al Khaimah, had been touted as an extension of Khan's home. The star had planned to contribute extensively to the conceptualisation and design of the residential complex, and also have a home there, according to UAE daily Emirates Business.
Khan was speaking in Abu Dhabi promoting his latest film, My Name is Khan. He told the newspaper that despite his contract running out, he would like to continue with the project.
"To be honest, it kind of fell through at that point in time," he told the paper, which reported that the project first ground to a halt in December 2008.
"You know, I would actually like to spend some time to go there after the film's release and meet His Highness [Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah] and kind of tell him that yes, my contract is over, but I feel it is one of the few things that I started and haven't seen its completion, so I would like to go back and tell them that I am still available if there is anything to be done," he continued.
"Because I would like it to be; and times will change and become better, so whatever service I can provide I will offer," the star added. "It's never always about just the money part that you make – I think it's just one of those things we never foresaw. Nobody foresaw. I would like to continue on the project, but it is definitely on hold right now."
