BT bash makes a splash!

Mumbai found her sea legs on Friday night. Think blue, the theme. Think the ocean, and the myriad life that teems within those infinite waters.
Times Group MD Vineet Jain and Shah Rukh Khan

The venue was the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower and everyone who is someone was there to celebrate this wonderful occasion with us. Yes indeed, Mumbai's beautiful people were invited to make waves at the Bombay Times' 15th Anniversary bash and so they did, with vim and vigour, raising a cheery toast to the good life and partying like there was no tomorrow at a pow-wow that went well on till the next morning.

As for the big fish, so to speak, in waves they came. Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan (Pa and Paa) with Vidya Balan (Maa) not far behind, Khiladi Akshay Kumar looking the LMSM (lean mean sex machine) with wife Twinkle, Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar, Ajay Devgn and Kajol, John Abraham and Bipasha, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Kangna Ranaut, Vivek Oberoi, Farah Khan, the Hinduja brothers, Gopichand and Prakash, Sameera Reddy and Miss World Diana Hayden... where do we begin when talking of the city's biggest party of the year? The must-be-seen-at social event on every fashionista's calendar? Each of them arrived into a firmament of flashbulbs and smiles of joy, as guests realised that they were part of a night that was truly special.

For the party, an entire expanse of the Taj was transformed into an aquatic wonderland. Head into one room, and you'd find an array of marine themed games. Another saw gigantic projections of deep sea life, giving the illusion of fluidity on solid walls. And when all that walking called for some relaxation, a massage room lulled guests into a feeling of pampered ease. Beautiful maidens garlanded guests with smiles and flowers. Walkways that connected all the rooms felt like walking through a wonderful undersea tunnel, bathed in aquamarine light and festooned with images of starfish, octopus and coral. And then the food. Par excellence. The seafood paella was sumptuous, the rawas delicate, the salmon exquisite. All served on the Taj terrace overlooking the Gateway where hours before the Indian Navy had Beat the Retreat. DJs Akhtar and Aqeel pulled out all the stops, with nothing but the very latest footstompers. Cheer was in the air. It's hard to describe if you weren't there, but you had to 'sea' it to believe it!
