Whatmore to be KKR coach

The Shah Rukh Khan owned Kolkata Knight Riders have roped in Dav Whatmore as coach of the IPL team, reports said.

The former Sri Lankan coach, now with the National Cricket Academy in India is tipped to replace John Buchanan, who was sacked after two poor seasons for KKR.

Speculations were doing the rounds for months as to who would bag the high profile job after the likes of John Wright, Richard Pybus, Dermot Reeve, Duncan Fletcher, Lalchand Rajput, WV Raman and Ashok Malhotra were interviewed.

Legendary Pakistani all-rounder Wasim Akram has been lined up as a bowling coach while former India gloves-man Vijay Dahiya will be given the responsibilities of assistant coach.

Buchanan, who had taken the Australian team to dizzying heights was unable to do the same magic with the Knight Riders and his last season with the team was enmeshed in controversies, where reported rifts between some Indian players and the management became the highlight of an otherwise appalling show in South Africa.
