"MTV had approached us with the concept. We thought it could lend a new dimension to TV programming and came on board to give a 'film feel' to these stories," says Idiot Box's Samar Khan, who had earlier directed the critically acclaimed Shaurya. He insists that Idiot Box has always tried to break convention. "The programming has to be innovative. It may or may not work, but at least it should be something that no one has seen before," Khan asserts.
At the moment, he is unsure if the partnership will extend beyond these two TV films. "It depends on the response. If the format is accepted, we will take it forward and may even use these actors in other projects," he says.
Will the films be released in theatres? "That's MTV's prerogative," says Khan. Meanwhile, the channel has tied up with Milestone Movies Pvt Ltd for a third movie that will also be screened in July.
