MALACCA - The Don was in prison here.
Bollywood King Datuk Shah Rukh Khan, with a police escort and outriders, was at the Sungai Udang Prison to witness a book-giving ceremony.
Looking every inch the Don character in Don 2, Shah Rukh's image for the movie is rugged and rough with long tresses, a result of hair extensions which took six hours to put on.
"We had to run through traffic but thank God the police escorts made it possible," said the No 1 Bollywood star who came from Kuala Lumpur to attend the event.
King Khan took time off from shooting to witness the presentation of 700 books and magazines published by Star Publications (M) Bhd to the prison. The company's donation was handed over by marketing services general manager Iris Tan.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam also contributed prayer mats and Surah Yaasin books on behalf of the Malacca government.
Others present were Sungai Udang Prison director Nik Mohamed Faidza Nik Jaafar and Shah Rukh's aide Datuk Lorna Enan Muloon.
"It's always good to have a passion for reading. It enhances and builds your imagination in different ways," said Shah Rukh who leaves for home this week after a month-long shoot for Don 2 in Malacca, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Langkawi.
The Prison Complex in Sungai Udang was one of the key locations for Don 2-The Chase Continues which picks up from where Don-The Chase Begins Again left off.
"My character is a crime lord who fools the police all over the world. You've not read the synopsis anywhere because we don't want to give away the story too early," Shah Rukh said.
Don 2, slated for a Dec 25 release, also stars Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Kunal Kapoor and Boman Irani.
Hrithik Roshan makes a cameo while local actors Adi Putra and Ridzuan Hashim guest star.
