MALACCA - Bollywood heartthrob Datuk Shah Rukh Khan said he is prepared to be the ambassador to promote Malaysia, in particular Malacca, to the world through his movies.
He said Malaysia offered a wide range of interesting places for the filming of a wide variety of movie genres and the people were friendly.
Speaking after attending a tea party at Bandar Baru Sungai Udang near here yesterday, Shah Rukh said this was the reason he picked locations in the state, as well as Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi for the RM50 million (S$20.94 million) equel to the Don 2 movie directed by Farhan Akhtar.
"Although the weather is quite hot, the people here are so hospitable, especially those in Malacca, which is why I have chosen this state for my next new film with a romantic theme.
"When the people are being nice to you, you should visit that place frequently. I will always remember Malacca because it is such an interesting place," said Shah Rukh, who will fly home to New Delhi this Sunday.
The Bollywood heartthrob was awarded the Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka Kehormat, which carries the title "Datuk" in 2009.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam extended his thanks to Shah Rukh for choosing the state for the Don 2 sequel filming location.
"I will wait for Shah Rukh to return here to make a film at Sungai Melaka," he said after presenting a batik fabric each to Shah Rukh and his personal manager in Malaysia, Datuk Lorna Enan Muloon.
