Mexican Barbara, who arrived in Mumbai before 10 days for promotion of 'Kites' movie and staying in Juhu with her bro Kintaro Mori, had a surprise party given in her honor by Shah Rukh last Sunday.

The Roshans have been more than hospitable to their movie's leading female in Mumbai and have taken her on shopping extravaganza and dinners. Barbara said "They are some of the best people I have met". She added "Sussanne wanted me to meet her close friend Gauri."

When Barbara went to SRK residence, she found the duo watching the IPL final with actor Arjun Rampal, Mehr Jessia, Chunky and Bhavna Pandey, Sanjay, Maheep Kapoor, Neelam Kothari and Kajal Anand.

"I don't follow cricket, so initially I was getting bored. But everyone was enjoying themselves. After the match, we really partied hard. Shah Rukh and Gauri are very nice. I met many other people, some of whom are actors, it was nice of them to welcome me to Mumbai."

‘Ra.1 means Random Access Version One’- Shah Rukh Khan

Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan who has always seen in cool and calm characters in his films will now be seen flying as a super hero. SRK's home production Ra.1 that talks about gizmos and gadgets has always been guessed for its title's meaning.

Finally it has been revealed by the actor himself that the title Ra.1 is the acronym for 'Random Access-Version One'. SRK tweeted on his blog, "Ra.1 means random access version one, will understand when u see the film. Ra.1 site will be up soon/have no film with Kajol or Yashji right now/don't dance too well, I just try hard/I am the hero in Ra.1."

While his friend and CEO of Red Chillies Entertainment- Bobby Chawla is still hospitalized, SRK needs to manage acting as well as production work. SRK further tweets, "Yes…wish Bobby my friend gets well sooner than soon. He is still in the hospital & the film is so difficult in terms of production."

Shah Rukh has dedicated this film to his lovely children who must be keenly waiting to watch their father's super hero acts.

Shah Rukh rescues Ra.One

With Bobby Chawla's illness disrupting shooting, he takes over all the grunt work to ensure shooting continues and one else is overburdened

Shah Rukh Khan is definitely missing his friend Bobby Chawla, but he is doing all he can to ensure Bobby's illness does not burden the rest of Ra.One's team. Instead of thrusting Bobby's duties on someone else from his team, Shah Rukh has now decided to take on the majority share of Bobby's duties, with director Anubhav Sinha helping out whenever he can. He has taken up the active duties of producer, even calling up the other actors and coordinating their dates, making sure their fee reaches them as decided, discussing the necessary details with the foreign and Indian technicians and then doing his scenes too.

Shah Rukh's friend and Juhi's brother Bobby Chawla, who is the CEO of Red Chillies Entertainment, was supposed to handle the duties of the producer. That way, Shah Rukh had to only concentrate on his acting. But unfortunately, Bobby suffered a brain haemorrhage early this month and had to be hospitalised. This disrupted the entire shooting schedule of Ra.One. But with Shah Rukh taking on all the extra duties, he has ensured things run smoothly now on and no one has reason to complain.

Ra.One is Shah Rukh's first superhero film. He plays a videogame developer who suddenly finds himself having to battle virtual villains in the real world. Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Shahana Goswami also star in the film.

Shah Rukh Khan On Painkillers; Wants To Give Up Smoking

Shah Rukh Khan, who plays a superhero in his upcoming film Ra.One (First Look), is nursing an injured knee and on painkillers. The actor wrote on his Twitter micro-blog on April 29, "Very tired and in pain. Have to get up and do some solid physio… work out. Painkillers are making me sleepy."

SRK even candidly admitted to his smoking habit, "Started to smoke when I was 27 (years old). Yes, want to give up smoking, but then we don't always get what we want. Ha ha!"

The Bollywood superstar also revealed the meaning of his film's title, "Ra. One is Random Access Version One, (you) will understand when you see the film." SRK's character in the film is called G.One.

SRK, Akshay might act together

Bollywood presenter-turned-director Sajid Khan doesn't deny his dream project is to get Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar together in the lead for a film but only when he has the right script.

"The day I have a script that can carry both Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan (in the lead), I'll come out with it. Both are superstars and who wouldn't like to work with both of them in their film," said Sajid.

"I adore Shah Rukh as a fan and Akshay is my brother. But it will take a lot of time as I will write my next script in six months and then approach them... so it's a lengthy process as of now," he added.

Akshay also said the same.

"These things take time. He will first write the script that will take time and then approach us and then we'll give out the dates. So it's at least more than a year-and-half away even if everything falls in place," said the actor.

Shah Rukh and Akshay have been seen earlier in Dil Toh Pagal Hai and Heyy Babyy but never as parallel leads. While the former had Akshay in a cameo, the latter saw Shah Rukh in a special appearance only for a song.

Sajid and Akshay were here at the DT Cinemas, DLF Promenade Tuesday evening to promote Housefull. Also present with them was the other star cast of the movie including Riteish Deshmukh, Arjun Rampal, Deepika Padukone and Jiah Khan.

Lara Dutta who also plays a pivotal role in the movie did not make it to the event. Releasing Friday, the movie has been produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.

SRK's (Ra.)One man army

The past few days have made it amply evident that Shah Rukh Khan believes that the show must go on.

Despite being very upset after his close associate, Red Chillies CEO Bobby Chawla (Juhi Chawla's brother), was admitted to a suburban hospital on April 4 after suffering a brain hemorrhage, SRK has decided to take care of every little thing in his production house.

Since Bobby Chawla's hospitalisation has thrown the entire shooting schedule of Ra.One in a complete mess, Shah Rukh has decided to lead from the front to ensure that everything is quickly put back on track.

"A few of Bobby Chawla's duties have been taken up by Ra.One director Anubhav Sinha too, but it is Shah Rukh who is now holding the reins of Ra.One," says a source close to the film.

Commenting on what exactly Shah Rukh is doing to get things back on track, the source says that Shah Rukh has taken up all duties which were earlier being handled by Bobby Chawla.

"SRK is mainly taking care of four jobs: calling up every actor of Ra.One and coordinating their dates, discussing their remuneration, making sure that they get their payments on time and talking to technicians (including those coming from abroad) for every single production detail, including the special effects involved in the film," says the source.

"Come to think of it, SRK is holding the whole film together. There is production related work, which SRK would have never done otherwise.

With Bobby taking care of everything at Red Chillies for all these years, all SRK had to concentrate on was acting.

He completely relies on Bobby and is definitely missing him very much. But SRK has decided that he will not give anybody involved with the film a chance to complain about anything," adds the source.

Shah Rukh has a tough job ahead but he has gladly taken on additional responsibilities...both as a friend and a boss.

KJo's next to be a comedy?

for a man who attempted to make a different film with My Name Is Khan, Karan Johar is contemplating a light subject next. His next directorial venture will be a far cry from the heavy-duty My Name Is Khan. Karan has left for New York to mull over it.

A source says, "Karan will use some time in the US to start writing this film." And of course, his best friend Shah Rukh Khan will be a part of it. Confirming that, Karan says, "I will never make a film without Shah Rukh. He is the most important part of my life." Talking about his next film, Karan said, "I have had enough of heavy-duty filmmaking for now. I want to make a fresh, funny film. In fact, I am feeling very light-hearted these days."

Is he going back to his original forte, films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham or Kal Ho Naa Ho? "Not really. It's time to move on. I am not a person who looks back. Those films happened many years ago," he quipped. Karan also said that he is very happy with the fate of My Name Is Khan. He says, "It opened a lot of new markets. I am very glad that I made this film. In fact, the main agenda of my trip to the US is Phase 2 of My Name Is Khan (the international release). Mulling over my next film will happen later." As for casting the heroine in his next film, Karan said, "I don't know when it will be ready. It could be six months or even a couple of years. I'll come back and decide."

SRK explains meaning of the title Ra.One

This year is likely to see the release of two big films with similar sounding titles. Yes...we are indeed referring to Mani Ratnam's Raavan and Shah Rukh Khan's home production Ra.One. However, the two similar sounding films are as different as chalk and cheese when it comes to their plotlines. While Mani's Abhi-Ash starrer is a modern-day adaptation of the mythological epic Ramayan, SRK's flick is a highly stylized film with a lot of gizmos and gadgets.

Coming to Ra.One, while it is known that SRK plays a super-hero kind of character in the film, what is not known is the fact that the title Ra.One is the acronym for 'Random Access-Version One'. This fact has been confirmed by the Superstar himself on Twitter. Says SRK, "Ra.One means Random Access- Version One, u will understand when u see the film. The Superhero is called G.One. Ra.One site will be up soon."

Meanwhile with his close friend and CEO of Red Chillies Entertainment- Bobby Chawla still admitted in the hospital, SRK has to even manage all the work related to production of Ra.One. SRK tweets, "Yes...wish Bobby my friend gets well sooner than soon. He is still in the hospital & the film is soo difficult in terms of production."

Looks like Ra.One is indeed taking a toll on SRK as he not only has to perform some heavy duty action sequences but also has to manage all aspects related to production.

Karan wants to revisit the KKHH days

It seems KJO urf Karan Johar has had enough of those heavy duty social films. Though his MNIK has turned out to be the biggest Bollywood hit in overseas, the director now wants to make something cool, refreshing and funny.

Hmmmmm that sounds like Karan is all set to revisit his KKHH days. When asked who will be the actor, pat came the reply, "I cannot imagine a film without SRK, he is the best."

We all know that Karan and SRK probably has his biggest admirer in Karan. It's not clear when will Karan announce his next bubble gum romancer but the animated version of 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' titled 'Koochie Koochie Hota Hai' release is on cards.

SRK's been busy with flying jumps

But now he's back from the 'Ra.One' shoot to do some 'earthly chores'

Shah Rukh Khan's been quite on the Twitter from these past few days. Ever since he tweeted about the IPL controversy being fast and furious like T20 we haven't heard much from SRK. But now he's back and telling us what he's been doing. And it sounds like he was on an adventure.

"Sorry been out of touch...kinda hard typing when hanging 40 feet in the air. finally over...nice to have my feet back on the ground."

40 feet in the air? We're thinking this was one of those superhero stunts for 'Ra.One'. And by the way, the picture you see here is the first look from the film, posted by SRK himself.

Shah Rukh added later, "Why all this...the jumps..the flying...the risks. is it to prove something...no.i do it cos i believe i can fly. u all made me believe it so."

But the star was truly back on the ground when he posted this, "have to rush for earthly chores. family came to see the shoot...the son gave me a pack of his favourite gum for a job well done."

How cute is that! Let's see what other stunts SRK gets up to, and what gifts he gets in return for them.

Shah Rukh Khan is the most important part of my life: Karan Johar

Karan Johar's great admiration for Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is well known. The director just can't do away with him. KJo has been so vocal about his admiration for SRK that insiders sense something more in their relationship than normal friendship. Recently, while talking about his new film to a news daily, the director went a little overboard when he was asked about the leading man in his next film, "I will never make a film without Shah Rukh. He is the most important part of my life."

Talking about his next film, Karan said, "I have had enough of heavy-duty filmmaking for now. I want to make a fresh, funny film. In fact, I am feeling very light-hearted these days." The director also said that he is undecided about the heroine of his next project.

"I don't know when it will be ready. It could be six months or even a couple of years. I'll come back and decide," Karan added.

Karan also stated that he is happy with the way his film 'My Name is Khan' turned out. He says "It opened a lot of new markets. I am very glad that I made this film. In fact, the main agenda of my trip to the US is Phase 2 of 'My Name Is Khan' (the international release). Mulling over my next film will happen later."

So, gear up to see the next offering, which again will be a result of Khan-Johar's 'dostana'!

SRK prefers to get cozy

We have seen him in romantic, action and comic roles but with 'Ra.One' it's for the first time that he is going to get into a superhero's garb. Shah Rukh who was completely kicked about his first superhero film, isn't finding shooting for the same easy or interesting.

After a killing back pain and a shoulder surgery, SRK is now down with knee pain, thanks to his dangerous stunts in 'Ra.One'. It is believed that Shah Rukh's Kolkata Knight Riders' physiotherapist Andrew Leipus has been treating his knee.

Needless to say, his health problems don't admit an adrenaline rush into our 45 years old hero. Speaking about his action scenes woes Shah Rukh quipped, "Every part of my anatomy hurts. Action does speak much louder than words and it says Ouch and Ooh."

He further explains that being a superhero onscreen is equally difficult off-screen. "I may soon lose my job as a lover if fighting comes into vogue. Somebody stop it and start a society prevention of cruelty to romantic heroes. This hanging on cables, bruises, heat, dust and sweaty people all around...I love the glamorous world of films." he signs off.

SRK walked out of IPL Awards function due to Yuvraj’s joke?

Shah Rukh Khan, who attended the IPL Awards ceremony last Friday after much cajoling from the organizers and sponsors, reportedly walked out of the event before the final act because cricketer Yuvraj Singh's joke onstage offended him.

According to a source familiar with the incident, "SRK teased Yuvi about his female fan following and said they only stuck to him because of his Casanova image."

"Yuvi retaliated by saying that women ran after him (and not Khan) because he was stuck to Karan. There was a hush in the audience at this comment but Shahrukh being a good sport, handled the situation well. But he made his displeasure known backstage and staged a walkout," added the source.

The final act at the event required all the IPL team owners to be present on the stage with their respective teams but SRK was nowhere to be found.

SRK left early because of work commitments?
However, when SRK was contacted and asked about the reason for his early visit, the star maintained that he came to the function despite being very busy and left the show only after fulfilling all his duties there.

SRK also said that it was not possible for him to stay till the end of the show due to other work commitments that needed his immediate attention.

"I had made a commitment as a professional - I would do my job. And I did. I left post show because I had a shoot waiting. I had to finish it," said Shah Rukh.

Friends call SRK 'problem child'
Recently, SRK tweeted that his constant brush with one controversy after another has earned him a tag of 'problem child' from his friends.

"My friend just called me a 'problem child'... always in trouble. I think it is true...it would be so boring to be a 'solution adult'," posted SRK on his Twitter page.

Just couple of days ago income tax officials had raided KKR's offices and were said to have found some "incriminating evidences" in the ongoing probe against IPL authorities because of financial irregularities.

SRK bats for Modi on Twitter

Shah Rukh Khan is back with a bang on Twitter after a hiatus, having finally broken his silence on the Indian Premier League ( IPL) drama. SRK tweeted his support for beleaguered IPL commissioner Lalit Modi.  Fast, furious and too much noise. like the T20 itself. hope it gets resolved as fast too for our friend lalit and franchisees(sic)," SRK said on Twitter. The actor also talked about his upcoming superhero flick, RA.One, on his Twitter profile.

Shah Rukh claimed to have done some "serious action" in the film. He jokingly said: "Every part of my anatomy hurts. Actions do speak much louder than words and they says (sic) OUCH and OOH." People have also been pestering him on Twitter to post some pictures of the Anubhav Sinha film, and he finally gave in, uploading one image from the movie.

"Director only allowed this picture from RA.One," he tweeted.

Isn't it funny to know that one of the biggest stars in the world still obeys his director's commands? Coming back to the IPL issue, SRK has been under a lot of stress in the past few days because of income tax raids at the Knight Riders office in Kolkata and also at his Red Chillies office.

A source said. "Although they (I-T sleuths) have not found anything, these small things add extra pressure on Shah Rukh, considering he is in the middle of the production of two films." While one is Ra.One, the other is Roshan Abbas's Always… Kabhi Kabhi.

Ra.One - First Look

Shahrukh Khan turns a superhero for his home production Ra.One. A sci-fi, action-packed thriller, the movie stars Arjun Rampal as SRK's nemesis. Kareena Kapoor plays King Khan's ladylove.

Presently shooting the action sequences for the film, SRK has been dangling from cables, jumping from dizzy heights and pushing his physical limits.

"Every part of my anatomy hurts...action does speak much louder than words...& it says OUCH & OOH," SRK tweeted after a day's shoot recently.

Describing the experience of shooting the risky action sequences, he wrote: "Hanging on cables...bruises..heat..dust...sweaty ppl (people) all around...i love the glamourous world of films."

SRK posted the first image from the movie on his twitter account. Here's the First Look of Ra.One.

SRK's quick script change

The teleprompter showed what Shah Rukh Khan was supposed to say next — "Picture abhi baki hai mere dost, abhi Lalit aur BCCI ke beech ek friendly match bacha hai."

But SRK, known for changing the script to match the mood, gave these lines a miss at the IPL awards night on Friday. Wisely. And that is how the tone for the big night of IPL Season III was set.

What started with a blitzkrieg, marking the marriage of cricket with glamour, tapered to a finish that's bound to keep tongues wagging long after the controversy dies down.

At the IPL awards night, which, in the past seasons, has been marked by the presence of the creme de la creme of the sports and entertainment world, it was time for reading between the lines, decoding body language, looking for the tiny snickers and keeping a ear cocked for the explosive silences.

Missing in action were Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Mukesh Ambani. Mukesh's wife Nita, however, was there. The BCCI hotshots had earlier indicated that they would boycott the evening, and they did.
When Lalit Modi, the man of the moment, was called on stage by hosts Shilpa Shetty and Karan Johar, Shetty said, "Put your hands together for the man who made it all possible." She fumbled at this point, adding, "You know who I'm talking about, Lalit, so clap for him."

When Modi took to the stage, dressed in his signature dark suit and silver tie, he chose his words carefully. "Seventeen years ago, I had a dream. I want to thank everyone for allowing me to fulfil it," he said.

SRK skips 'friendly match' mention

Shah Rukh Khan says his friends have started calling him a 'problem child' for his constant brush with controversies. At the recently held IPL Awards Night, SRK omitted 'friendly match' mention about Lalit Modi and BCCI.

Going by the teleprompter, Shahrukh was supposed to say, "Picture abhi baki hai mere dost, abhi Lalit aur BCCI ke beech ek friendly match bacha hai." However, the Bollywood actor changed the script to suit the mood and missed these lines at the Awards Night.

"My friend just called me a 'problem child'... always in trouble. I think it is true...it would be so boring to be a 'solution adult'," Shah Rukh posted on his Twitter

SRK's friends call him 'problem child'

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan says his friends have started calling him a "problem child" for his constant brush with controversies.

"My friend just called me a 'problem child'... always in trouble. I think it is true...it would be so boring to be a 'solution adult'," Shah Rukh posted on his Twitter page.

In wake of allegations of financial irregularities in the Indian Premier League (IPL), income tax officials had visited Shah Rukh's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) office in Kolkata and claimed to have unearthed vital clues.

The superstar is hoping that clouds of suspicion and uncertainty will soon be over.

"IPL controversy: fast, furious and too much noise. Like the T20 itself. Hope it gets resolved as fast too for our friend Lalit & franchises," added the actor.

Deleted Scenes of My Name Is Khan Click here to add this article to My Clips

Deleted Scenes of My Name Is Khan

The much awaited DVD of Karan Johar's super-hit film My Name Is Khan was launched yesterday by the director himself. Besides the usual stuff like the making of the film, the theatrical trailer etc., the DVD features almost 45 minutes of deleted scenes. Each deleted scene is preceded by a short intro by Karan Johar in which he speaks about the significance of the scene and the reasons why it failed to make it in the end product. He also adds that it was indeed a tough task for his editor Deepa Bhatia to decide which scene to retain and which one to chop off. While many of the deleted scenes are genuinely heart-warming, some are plain ordinary. We bring you some of the best moments from the unseen footage which couldn't make the final cut. Take a close look at some of these scenes and you will realise that this DVD is indeed a must-buy for all KJo-SRK-Kajol fans.
Deleted Scenes of My Name Is Khan

Rizwan's journey from childhood to San Francisco

This section features some deleted scenes from the early part of the film where a young Rizwan (played by the supremely talented Tanay Chedda) gets valuable tips on life from his loving mom (played beautifully by Zarina Wahab). By now its common knowledge that Rizwan's character in the film has the god-gifted talent of 'repairing almost anything' and this very trait is depicted in some of the deleted scenes like the one in which a young Rizwan repairs an old watch. The section ends with a scene featuring Soniya Jehan (who plays Rizwan's caring sister-in-law) taking a now grown up Rizwan (Shah Rukh Khan) to the American Autistic Society. Shah Rukh's expression on seeing other autistic people and his joy at getting his hands on a Rubik's Cube indeed makes this scene a must-watch.

"My friend just called me a "problem child". always in trouble. I think it's true...it would be so boring to be a "solution adult," he adds.

Hope Sachin's fingers heal soon: SRK

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Saturday wished Master Sachin Tendulkar on his 37th birthday.

"Happy Birthday Sachin! Hope your fingers heal soon." Khan wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.

It is uncertain if Tendulkar would play Sunday's IPL final against Chennai Super Kings since he injured his palm during the semi final.
There seems no stopping the "God of Cricket", who, even after a career spanning 20 years, is at the top of his game. In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), he was on Friday declared the best batsman.

The top scorer of the tournament, Tendulkar has scored 570 runs in 14 matches. He has scored five half centuries. The master batsman has also been named best batsman and best captain in the Viewers' Choice category.

Khan, who hosted the IPL awards on Friday, along with karan Johar, said he could not stay back because he had a shoot in the morning. "(I have) been shooting action. Every part of my anatomy hurts. Action does speak much louder than words and it says 'OUCH & OOH'," he Tweeted about an hour ago.

Shahrukh highly popular in Hong Kong

Summer vacations are here and Hong Kong is making the most of this time. We hear, as Hong Kong has been receiving many more tourists from India in the last two years, it's leaving no chance to make their recreational activities all the more attractive.

Buzz is that Hong Kong Madame Tussauds has borrowed the wax statue of superstar Shahrukh Khan from London for three months and it will be on display alongside Hollywood stars Jackie Chan, Harrison Ford and Johnny Depp.

However, the museum is not new to Bollywood. Last year, it had displayed the wax figure of megastar Amitabh Bachchan. Considering the success of displaying Amitabh Bachchan's wax figure, they are of the view that King Khan will be as popular.

Shahrukh to stand in Hong Kong

He's standing there for sure. Not him but his wax statue that was made by Madame Tussauds, London in 2007.

On a loan from London, Madame Tussauds at Hong Kong will display Bollywood's superstar Shahrukh Khan's wax statue for three months. He will be standing there with Hollywood celebs like Harrisson Ford, Johnny Depp and Jackie Chan.

With a lot of Indian tourists traveling to Hong Kong, the world famous wax gallery wanted to include SRK's statue to receive attention. Indian celebrities are not new to Madame Tussauds, Big B has already stood there. We mean his statue!

American version of My Name Is Khan to be shorter by 35 minutes

If the name Alan Edward Bell doesn't ring a 'bell' in your mind, then, let us tell you that, he is the same man who is responsible for the crisp editing of 500 Days Of Summer. And it is going to be this man who will very soon be the talk of the nation (or is that 'globe'?), as he is the man responsible for 'taming the hurricane'. For the uninitiated, we are talking about the climax of Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan wherein the characters get stranded due to a hurricane. Post the release of the film in India; while the story and screenplay were appreciated to the hilt, this was one particular scene that was panned by critics alike. But, for its US release, KJo has let Bell's hands to do the talking (read 'snipping').

Karan Johan candidly admits that he was expecting this scene not to work in the same wavelength as the film's story. He also added that, it was for this reason, that he let Bell to do his job (without any interference from him) since he wanted an outsider's perspective to the story. This has now resulted in the chopping of the hurricane scene in the US version of My Name Is Khan. Bell's work will be visible in the film, which releases on May 7th in the US, and will have its subtitles and voiceovers in English for the audiences there.

SRK's Knight Riders back in the game

Looks like Shah Rukh Khan's many Twitter posts underlining his disappointment with his IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders' performance finally had some effect on the players. At the match played in Kolkata today, SRK's team scored a comfortable win over Shilpa Shetty's Rajasthan Royals. The Knight Riders restricted the Royals to just 132 runs, and then reached 133 with a spectacular innings from captain Sourav Ganguly.

This result means that Shilpa's Royals are out of the semi-finals race now. Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders still have an outside chance to make it to the final four of IPL 2010.

And Shah Rukh was there to enjoy the victory today (and the hope for a future semi-final spot) with wife Gauri, kids Aryan and Suhana, and friends Arjun and Mehr Rampal, Sussanne Roshan, Bhavna Pandey (Chunky Pandey's wife), Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor, and Neelam. SRK looked absolutely thrilled after the win, and had the crowds at the stadium roaring when he blew them a kiss during the post-match presentation ceremony.

And what of Shilpa? Well, she took the defeat in the right spirit. She tweeted after the match, "Okay RR is officially out now!:( anyway time to restructure and regroup and need to come back with a bigger bang next year! Well done KKR:)"

She continued later, "I undrstand the disappoinmnt.can only say sorry nd thanku 4 the supp.Big hug to u all.somethings r not meant to be..RR will com bak stronger."

And what will SRK and his KKR team be doing now? Celebrating of course. Arjun Rampal wrote on his Twitter page, "Made it, amazing game, wish we had done it in 13 overs. Anyway we won and are still alive. Congrats to all of u as well. Full power party on."

Shah Rukh Khan — the man and the star

What's the man like behind the glitz and glamour. To find out, watch Revealed: Shah Rukh Khan, writes SUBHADRA DEVAN

DATUK Shah Rukh Khan, known to many Malaysians from Bollywood films since the rom-com Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (with Kajol) in 1998, is the subject of a one-hour expose today. The Discovery Channel exclusive programme Revealed: Shah Rukh Khan, was directed by Samar Khan, a journalist turned film-maker with hit films like Shaurya and Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaaye to his credit.

In a phone interview from Mumbai, Samar says the show took a year of "awful hard work" and that Shah Rukh, whom he had known for some 15 years and whom he calls his good luck charm, took some "convincing" to do it. "We were shooting over 40 days in a year," says Samar, "and he understood the camera could get intrusive at times." It helped of course that the show was co-produced by Shah Rukh's own company, Red Chillies Entertainment. But, "it was completely unadulterated access". Says Samar: "There was no restriction on what we could or could not shoot. And there was no censorship from his side on any of the episodes or anything that we had shot." What were the three most surprising things you discovered about Shah Rukh while working with him, even though you've known him for 15 years? The first thing that surprised me about the man was how he managed his time. He manages to meet so many people in a day. He manages to do work and still find time for his children.

It surprised me that as a human being, he's a very private person. He likes his solitude and to be left alone. He likes to be in quiet places, while outwardly, he seems like an extrovert. He's very personal with his friends and he keeps his friends very limited. He does not make friends very easily. But to be called a friend of Shah Rukh Khan is extremely rare, because he chooses his friends with a lot of care. The third thing was that he just eats the bare minimum. He's so nonchalant about the kind of car he drives or the food he's eating or the fact that he's staying in a hotel. He really doesn't care about these things. What does he eat? He himself says in the documentary that he has the most unhealthy eating habits. His diet contains protein, which is chicken. He only eats chicken. Caffeine, because he only drinks coffee — about 10 cups a day — and nicotine, because he smokes a lot. So his diet is caffeine, nicotine and protein.

Are you going to show his weaknesses as a human being or as an actor? Is this going to be a documentary where you glorify him as an actor and which doesn't show a balanced picture? I don't think we have tried to show Shah Rukh as a perfect human being. He has frailties. He has shortcomings in his life, and as an actor. We have tried to show his life. So the documentary is not a judgment of him. He's spoken about his insecurities and shortcomings as an actor, as a human being and as a father. We've tried to present a balanced picture and not just the actor or the star.

What were the biggest challenges in putting this documentary together? The challenge was to remain as objective as possible.

You do like him, so how did you remain objective? I think we all like him. But my job as a director was to be as objective as possible. It helps because I have a journalist background. Revealed: Shah Rukh Khan presents the changing face of India from 1990s. There is no part of the world that have not heard about Bollywood or Shah Rukh Khan. He represents in a way, the success story that India is, post-1990s. Why do you think Shah Rukh is so popular in India and the rest of the world. What is it about him that appeals the most? Actually, you'll have to see the documentary (for that answer). There are so many factors, which has come together for this. That's what we'll reveal — to tell the world why this man is so successful. Once you see the documentary, you will be able... to analyse the success of Shah Rukh Khan. The series, Living With A Superstar, explores what you call Shahrukhisms, which are basically his philosophies on life. Can you share some of these with us? He believes in loyalty and in standing by people who have believed in him. He goes out of his way to help them. He's somebody who does so from his heart. He does not do things from the brain. Even if it does not make logical sense, he will do it because his heart tells him to. He's a very fond believer in destiny. (Living With A Superstar is a 10-part series premiering on Discovery Travel And Living after July, which offers an intimate glimpse into the day-to-day life of SRK over the course of a year.) What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about Shah Rukh Khan? A lot of people think he is very arrogant and expect him to be very brash. I don't think he's arrogant. He's just the way he is. Even if he was not successful, he would still be the same way because that's his personality. Why do you think India's entertainment industry in general is attracting global audiences? I think India's entertainment industry is very unique in its storytelling. And our emotions are the mainstay of our stories. We tell stories with deep human emotions and deep human emotions cut across all countries and languages. People are able to associate with these emotions. So I guess that's one of the main reasons why people connect with Indian cinema and Indian films and also because there are Indians all over the world.

So, if you want to find out about the man behind the glitz and glamour, watch the one-hour special, Revealed: Shah Rukh Khan, today over Discovery Channel (Astro 551) at 10pm, with repeats tomorrow 1am, 9am and 3pm, and on April 25 at 5am and 9am.

For a professional, there’s never a challenge: Shah Rukh Khan

- The No. 1 superstar on life away from cricket

Calcutta: Shah Rukh Khan's tweets have been giving an insight into what he feels, emotionally and otherwise, about the Kolkata Knight Riders' performance in IPL III.

Moving away from cricket, the numero uno superstar spoke to The Telegraph. The one-on-one covered films, challenges and whether he's the sort to envy.

The following are excerpts

Q Critically, where would you rate your performance in your last release, My Name Is Khan?

A I never see my films... I mean, you just do what you think is good at that point in time... You don't assess your state of mind and say that this is nice... I don't even know how to rate the film... What I do look at is just the technical things. I don't see films in the hall with people... I see it, technically, five-seven days before we take the final call... See how it's going to look. The process of making art is enjoyable to you, the process of enjoying art is for the others. It's a very strange dichotomy in art, that it is not yours. You can ask any artist, whether it be a singer, a painter or a designer... It is very strange that your work is only yours till you are making it. Post that, it is everybody else's to enjoy. So, I feel the same sense of detachment. I do feel very happy when people say it (a film) has turned out well, I can't deny that I love that... On a Monday (after the opening weekend), though, the film is not mine. It's like a daughter you marry off and hope she's happy with her husband and that her husband's happy with her. And that she spreads love like she did in your life... So, in any work of art, the artist will have a different connotation... I want people to enjoy my films and it's not only about the number of people who come to the halls. Of course, if a lot of people come, then a lot of money also comes, but I can't sit and talk critically... I don't even remember what I've done in the film, to be honest with you...

What's your reaction when fans praise a particular scene or scenes?

See, when you are doing it, you don't even know which one is going to be liked by the people. You may like a particular shot, but others could find some other shot nice and 20 more may just hate it all. To me, the process of creating each film is as important as my life itself. And, then, you just leave it and get on to the next one.

Talking of challenges, how challenging was your role in My Name is Khan?

(Passionately) For a professional, there's never a challenge... It would be a challenge for someone who is not a professional actor. This is what I deliver... This is what I do... This is what I live by... When my director tells me to do something, I don't take it as a challenge at all. I work very hard on it... I've worked for 20 years and, if after 20 years, I take it as a challenge, then you know (something is wrong)... I'd be disappointed if one of my KKR players says he finds the role assigned to him challenging.

As an actor, what for you is the next level?

I don't think like that. I just do the films my friends like, or, I feel like doing... It becomes more important when people like it. The appreciation belongs to the viewers, I have no ownership over it. I don't know how it will pan out... I just do my job and have a great time doing it. Like I'm doing Ra.One now... I'm really thrilled.

Is there an actor or a person you envy?

I don't have any reason to envy anyone.

Or, appreciate highly...

I appreciate everyone. I enjoy everybody's work... I don't belittle anyone, I'm humble. Indeed, I accept everybody's excellence with a lot of humility, graciousness and appreciation. However, I don't want to be like anyone else. I want to be me. I like (best buddy) Vivek (Khushalani) for what he is... But, there's no point in my becoming him... Vivek is good individually for what he does and I have to appreciate it. However, I want to be who I am and I hope people appreciate that... There has never been any envy in my life, never. I have no negative or dark shades and am always transparent.

Do you have long-term plans? Do you actually plan ahead or do you plan for the moment?

(Laughs) I do what I like doing at the moment in question... Like giving you this interview.

But you don't really come across as being disorganised, so to say?

I'm very disorganised.

The final one... Disorganised at home?

Everywhere.

SRK's MNIK now 35 minutes shorter!

Karan Johar is making good use of a second opportunity to release My Name Is Khan. The pre-climactic hurricane sequences from My Name Is Khan, which were most coldly received by critics and the audience, have now been omitted from the film by well-known American film editor Alan Edward Bell. As a result, the new (and improved?) version is shorter by 35 minutes for its American release on May 7.

The ever-candid Karan Johar now admits that the much-criticised hurricane sequences , supposedly located in the Wilhelmina town in the Georgia district of the US, actually shot at Film City in Mumbai, were not up to the mark.

Karan says, "I knew all along that the hurricane scenes didn't quite work. But sometimes, one goes along with one's vision, sees it to the end and hopes it would all finally smoothen itself out. Looking back I feel those hurricane scenes are not on par with the rest of the film."

The scenes have now been edited out of My Name Is Khan for the subtitled version of the film to be released in New York. But the editing has not been done by Karan.

The director says, "I surrendered the film to the film's writer Shibani Bathija and an American editor Alan Edward Bell who edited 500 Days Of Summer. We all felt that an outsider's perspective was needed to understand how the West would like to see My Name Is Khan."

Karan completely stayed out of the editing room and let Alan do his job. "Strangely, he let all the songs remain. Yes, he took out the hurricane scenes. I'm now going to New York for the film's non- traditional release," adds Karan.

While the language for the American version of My Name Is Khan is Hindi, subtitles and a voiceover in English have been added for the US audience.

Shahrukh Khan-The story behind his first visit to the Taj Mahal!

It is the dream of every Indian to visit the magnificent Taj Mahal, atleast once in his or her life time, and Shahrukh Khan is not an exception!

Shahrukh Khan, the present King of bollywood, had visited this piece of marvel, just after he had earned his first salary! Now, this is the test, how much would Shahrukh have earned in his first job ever? The answer is a mind boggling one- It was Rs.50! Yeah! It is with that amount of money that SRK, had bought a ticket to travel by train to Agra, where the great monument is situated.

Now, what kind of a job did Shahrukh do for the first time in his life? Well, this one's also equally mind-boggling- he worked as an usher. That is to say, he was the ticket checker for a concert, where in he had to check the tickets and then let the people in. The concert was of the great Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas.

Well, like all Indians who value the TajMahal as the epitome of Romance, Shahrukh Khan too had visited the magnificent tomb built by Emperor ShahJahan, for his beloved Queen Mumtaz Mahal. It was built as a sign of his eternal love for her, this is the Tomb of the great Queen, where her body was buried, and this wonder of the World, was built around it.

Thus, to say the least, all we can actually think of is that Shahrukh surely knows how to make the maximum use of his hard earned money! So, that's the story about SRK and his first visit to the Taj Mahal.

Shah Rukh Khan MNIK cut 35 minutes for US, releasing May 7!!

Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer Karan Johar's blockbuster flick 'My Name Is Khan', which is due for a US release on May 7, has become 35 minutes shorter after Hollywood editor Alan Edward Bell of '500 Days of Summer' fame edited it of hurricane sequence for the US audience.

The reputed editor of Hollywood considered the hurricane sequence unnecessary addition but kept the Hindi song and dance numbers in the film intact. In fact, he took the view that these song and dance numbers should be kept in the film as they highlighted the uniqueness of bollywood flicks.

Sources close to production house say that Alan Bell felt that the hurricane sequences of Wilhelmina town in the US would only irritate the American audience who were fully aware of the reality and would instantly recognize that it was not their town. In fact, Karan Johar had shot that particular sequence not in the US but in the Film City studio in Mumbai, and he knew from the very beginning that it was not up to the mark

Karan Johar roped in Allan Beal to edit the American version of 'My Name Is Khan,' as he wanted it to be finalized from the US audience's point of view without any interference from any quarters.

'My Name Is Khan' in its new US avatar will have subtitles and voiceover in English for the benefit of audiences there. However, the flick will continue to be in Hindi language, as the original was, to keep its magic intact.

Shah Rukh Khan plays the character of Rizwan Khan, who is suffering from the Asperger's syndrome. The US authorities mistook his condition and arrest him for being a Khan. The movie shows the trauma of being a Muslim in the US after the bombing of New York by suspected terrorists.

Unlike many Bollywood stars who hail from film dynasties, Shah Rukh comes from a middle-class family and is self-made. A Muslim married to a Hindu, Shah Rukh is not only big in India but in other countries around the world, including those where his films are banned.

Revealed: Shah Rukh Khan explores various facets of the superstar, which make him an icon of the contemporary Indian story. Tracing his humble beginnings _ from a struggling director-wannabe to successful entrepreneur and Bollywood's most bankable star _ the programme deconstructs Shah Rukh's appeal at the cusp of his possible transition to international success via his latest blockbuster, My Name Is Khan.

Fans will also get a peek into the private life of this devoted family man. Hear from those who have followed him over the years and from the man himself, and discover the real Shah Rukh Khan, only on Discovery Channel's Revealed: Shah Rukh Khan.

SRK, Hrithik to add spark to IPL

AR Rahman, Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar, Bipasha Basu, Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif — the who's who of Bollywood is getting ready to shake a leg for the Indian Premier League. While Hrithik and Bipasha will perform at the IPL Grand Finale on April 25, a bevy of stars will add glamour to the first ever IPL Awards Night, to be held on April 23, in Mumbai.

While the organisers tried to keep the line-up a closely guarded secret, HT City learnt that Hrithik will be dancing to songs from his upcoming film Kites, and will also do a choreographed number with Bipasha Basu. "Hrithik's performance will be really special and will include some of his past hits," says a source from Cineyug, one of the event management companies organising the event.

Rahman, apart from performing the Oscar-winning hit Jai Ho, will also be seen performing with British pop group Sugababes.Talking about the international stars, besides Sugababes, that are expected at the Grand Finale, an organiser revealed, "Our first choice was the American rapper PitBull, but he refused. The next choice was Black Eyed Peas, who also said no. We also approached Usher, but he asked for too much money."

The IPL Awards Night will be hosted by SRK and Johar, while Shilpa Shetty, Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra will perform. "The IPL Awards is the crowning jewel to recognise the best of this season," said IPL chairman Lalit Modi.

Players on stage?

If Lalit Modi, has his way, a host of cricketers will also perform at the IPL Awards Night. A source from Cineyug, the event managers, said, "A proper choreographed performance by a team is impossible as the cricketers are busy with matches. However, cricketers Sreesanth, Brett Lee and Chris Gayle are likely to perform live. While Sreesanth will dance to a filmi number, Lee will sing and play the guitar."

The shah of Bollywood

TELEVISION
Revealed: Shah Rukh Khan
April 18, 10 p.m.
Discovery Channel

The worldwide box-office and critical success of 2009 Oscar best picture winner Slumdog Millionaire -- an American production but with an Indian story and cast -- has demonstrated India's growing influence on the contemporary global cinema industry.

India's Hindi-language film industry based in Mumbai -- informally referred to as Bollywood -- is one of the most prolific in the world, churning out around 800 films in a year. And because of the Indian diaspora, these films find an audience worldwide. With the success of Slumdog, more non-Indians are becoming interested in Indian films and performers.

One of Bollywood's biggest superstars -- actor Shah Rukh Khan -- is the focus of a special program of Discovery Channel called Revealed: Shah Rukh Khan.

The one-hour program presents an intimate portrait of a hardworking self-made man who has conquered Bollywood and whose popularity is manifested wherever Bollywood films are seen. Nicknamed "King Khan," Shah Rukh Khan has ruled Bollywood for almost two decades. In 2008, he was even listed among Newsweek's "50 Most Powerful People of the World."

Revealed: Shah Rukh Khan traces his humble beginnings -- from a struggling director-wanna-be to successful entrepreneur and Bollywood's most bankable star. The program deconstructs Mr. Khan's appeal at the cusp of his possible transition to international success via his latest blockbuster, My Name Is Khan.

Fans will also get a peek into the private life of this devoted family man (he is a Muslim married to a Hindu woman).

Discovery Channel recently arranged a phone interview between members of the Philippine media and Indian film and TV producer Samar Khan, who directed the TV special about the Bollywood superstar. Here are excerpts of the interview.

BusinessWorld (BW): Did it take any convincing on your part to do the documentary?

Samar Khan (SK): I think it took a little bit of convincing... [Shah Rukh Khan] understood the camera could get intrusive at times. It took convincing for his family also, especially his wife, who had to be convinced that we would not get too intrusive into their lives.

[There was] the fact that I have been working with Shah Rukh and I know him for the past 15 years. So the family was familiar with my face... Also the fact that it was being co-produced by his own company, which is Red Chillies Entertainment, and the fact that it was Discovery (Channel) and it was not any other network, that finally convinced him to let the cameras follow him for about 60 days.

So it was completely unadulterated access. There was no restriction on what we could shoot or what we could not shoot. And there was no censorship from his side on any of the episodes or anything that we had shot.

BW: What are the three most surprising things you found out about Shah Rukh Khan while working with him? You said you've known him for 15 years, but I'm sure following him for 60 days, there were some things about him that definitely still surprised you and what were they?

SK: I think the first thing that surprised me about the man [was] how he manages his time. He manages to meet so many people in a day. He manages to do work and he still manages to find time for his children... He meets directors. He does [so much] businesses. He owns a cricket team. He makes films. He does advertising. He meets other people, so there's so much he packs into a day and he still has time for his family, which is so amazingly super human to find time for his family.

The other thing that surprised me was that as a human being, he's a very private person. He likes his solitude. He likes to be left alone. He likes to be in quiet places, while outwardly, he seems like an extroverted person. There is somewhere within him that he's such a quiet person who does not have to many friends in the world.

He's very personal with his friends and he keeps his friends very limited. He does not make friends very easily. He will meet acquaintances. He will have great working relationships. But to be called a "friend" of Shah Rukh Khan, is extremely tough, because he chooses his friends with a lot of care.

And the third thing which I found out about him, was that he does not eat at all. He just eats the bare minimum, which is required. And he's so nonchalant about the kind of car he drives or the food he's eating or the fact that he's staying in a hotel. He's just so nonchalant about it. That it's quite amazing, keeping in mind that he's such a big superstar, but he really doesn't care about these things.

BW: What car does he drive?

SK: He drives a BMW. That's the car that he has for his personal use. That's the only car he actually owns. He does not own a fleet of cars. He had this BMW car, which is a 7 Series, for the last couple of years and that's the only car that he drives. That's the only car that he has.

BW: You mentioned he eats very little -- what food does he eat?

SK: ... he himself says in the documentary that he has the most unhealthy eating habits. His diet contains protein, which is chicken. He only eats chicken. Caffeine, because he only drinks coffee -- he drinks about 10 cups of coffee a day -- and nicotine, because he smokes a lot. So his diet is caffeine, nicotine, and protein.

BW: From what you have said, are you presenting a balanced picture of him? Are you showing his weaknesses as a human being or as an actor?

SK: I don't think we have tried to show Shah Rukh as a perfect human being. He has frailties. He has shortcomings that he has in his life. He has shortcomings as an actor. We have tried to show his life. So the documentary is not a judgment on him. The documentary is not judging him as a human being, whether he's a good human being or a bad human being, or a successful human being, or an unsuccessful human being. We're trying to be as objective as possible for people to make an opinion.

He has spoken about his own insecurities. He has spoken about his own shortcomings as an actor. He has spoken about his own shortcomings as a human being. He has spoken about his own shortcomings as a father.

So we have tried to present to you a balanced picture of a human being and not just the actor or the star that you have been seeing so long... It's pretty balanced... It's a pretty exhaustive look at the man.

BW: What are the biggest challenges you faced in putting this documentary together?

SK: The biggest challenge I think was to be as objective as possible, I guess, because there is a feel that you can get for the man. So the challenge was to remain as objective as possible.

BW: How did you remain objective?

SK: I think we all like him... But my job as a director was to be as objective as possible. I think that I have been that objective because I have a journalist's background. I have been a journalist for most of my career..... I think what helps me is the fact that Discovery (Channel) itself is a very, very objective network...

BW: What are the interesting facts in your documentary?

SK: Revealed: Shah Rukh Khan presents the changing face of India. India has gone through a lot of change from 1990s onward, where we have become a liberal country. Our economy has opened up. We have become a part of the world, more than we were pre the '90s.

There is no part of the world that you can travel [to] that you will not hear about Bollywood and you would not hear about Shah Rukh Khan... you will not go any part of the world where you would have not meet someone who is interested in coming to India, or investing in India, or wanting to be a part of India, or being part of the Indian success story. So he represents, in a way, the success story that India is post the '90s.

BW: To what do you attribute the popularity of Shah Rukh Khan or what is it about him that appeals to the public the most?

SK: Actually, you'll have to see the documentary because the documentary is exactly about that.... Revealed: Shah Rukh Khan is a documentary special that is not so much about Shah Rukh, but it's more about the success of Shah Rukh. So we'll try and dissect for the audience to know what the reason why Shah Rukh Khan is successful and what makes him such a global icon. So for the audiences, they will come to see why or what makes his success or what makes audiences love him.

BW: What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about Shah Rukh Khan?

SK: I think one of the misconceptions people have about him is that he's very out of it. I don't think he's out of it at all, or he has any kind of air about him -- he doesn't let his success go to his head. A lot of people I meet many times think he is very arrogant and expect him to be very brash. I don't think he's arrogant. I think he's just the way he is. Even if he were not successful, he would still be the same way, because that's his personality. But I haven't met somebody who is so easy and so cool about his success and about what he's achieved in his career.

BW: Why do you think India's entertainment industry in general is attracting global audiences?

SK: I think because of the novelty of the entertainment industry of India or I think India's entertainment industry is very unique in its storytelling. It's very unique in the way we make our films. And our emotions are the mainstay of our stories.

We don't razzmatazz with technology. We tell stories with deep human emotions and deep human emotions cut across all countries, and cut across all languages, and people are able to associate with those emotions. So I guess that's one of the main reasons why people connect with Indian cinema.

And also because there are Indians today all over the world. There are Indians everywhere. They travel around the globe and those Indians have taken Indian culture and have made people all over the world familiar with Indian culture. So [film is] a reflection or I would say a glamorization of that Indian culture.

BW: Is it true that Slumdog Millionaire was first offered to Shah Rukh Khan?

SK: That I would not know. That either would be known by Shah Rukh or would be known by the team of Slumdog Millionaire or by [its director] Danny Boyle. I know it was not offered to me, so that I can tell you.

Revealed: Shah Rukh Khan premieres on April 18, 10 p.m., on Discovery Channel. The show will be replayed on April 19 at 1 a.m., 9 a.m., and 3 p.m., and on April 25 at 5 a.m., and 9 a.m. Discovery Channel is Channel 39 in SkyCable, Channel 22 in Cablelink, Channel 24 in Global Destiny Cable, and Channel 19 in Dream Satellite.
